Ludo Multiplayer brings the beloved cross-and-circle board game into your browser, allowing you to play the classic race-to-home game with up to four players on the same device or against computer-controlled opponents.
Each player controls four tokens of their color (red, blue, green, or yellow) that begin in their home base and must complete a full circuit of the board before racing into the center home column. The dice determine movement, but strategy governs which token to move when multiple options are available.
Ludo's appeal lies in its combination of luck, strategy, and social dynamics. The dice introduce genuine randomness — a six lets you enter a new token or move any token six spaces (with a re-roll bonus).
Key Features:
- Bonus rounds and special events
- Multiplayer support
- 3D visual presentation
- Classic retro-inspired design
- Strategic depth and planning
- Instant browser play — no download needed
- Free to play on desktop and mobile
Getting Started:
Ludo follows consistent rules across all versions — here is the complete guide:
- Setup — Each player selects a color. All four of that player's tokens start in their colored home base corner.
- Entering the Board — You must roll a 6 to bring a token from the home base onto the starting square. Until you roll a 6, no token can move. Rolling a 6 also grants a bonus re-roll.
- Moving Tokens — On your turn, roll the dice. Move any one of your active tokens (tokens already on the board) exactly the number shown on the dice. Tokens travel clockwise around the board.
- Capturing Opponents — If your token lands on a square occupied by an opponent's token, the opponent's token is sent back to their home base. You do not gain a bonus roll for captures.
- Safe Squares — Certain squares are designated safe zones (often marked with a star or distinct color). Tokens on safe squares cannot be captured.
- The Home Column — When a token has completed the full circuit, it enters its colored home column (a path leading to the center). Movement in the home column is exact — you must roll the exact number needed to reach the final home square.
- Winning — The first player to get all four tokens into the center home square wins.
- Strategic Note: You can choose which token to move.
Desktop Controls:
- Click the dice — rolls the dice at the start of your turn
- Click a token — selects it for movement (moves automatically the rolled amount)
- Valid moves are highlighted — only tokens that can legally move are selectable
Mobile Controls:
- Tap the dice — rolls
- Tap a token — moves it
- The interface scales for touch screens; tokens are large enough for accurate tapping
Pro Tip: Turn Timer (where applicable): - Some versions include a turn timer.
Tips for Beginners:
- Ludo is part luck, part strategy.
- Early Game — Token Deployment: - Bring all four tokens onto the board as quickly as possible.
Advanced Strategies:
- Keep tokens grouped near safe squares when possible. A token on a safe square cannot be captured regardless of opponent positioning.
- Identify which opponent is furthest ahead and prioritize threatening or blocking them. A slow-advancing token that repeatedly threatens the leader is tactically more valuable than blindly racing your own tokens.
High-Score Tip: Advanced Positioning: - Block an opponent's forward path by keeping one of your tokens just ahead of their fastest token.
